Andy King UBL Wednesday

Grand Finals night is here!! Season 13 comes to a halt as the final game is on show! The 2 best teams from each division on UBLs most challenging night face off for the last time this year for the ultimate prize, the UBL championship and the right to be called champions!

Div 1 saw Grey Geese the formidable 3 time champions on a run to get another but against a different opponent this time, Amigoes make the Grand Finals for the first time ever since entering to challenge their squad with the best UBL has to offer. With both sides packed with skilful players the game would no doubt be close and everything you’d expect from UBL Wednesdays Div1.

The first quarter saw the Grey Geese get busy right away with a run to start the game pushing it around the arc for the quick 3, Kristian led the way with 6points and 6rebs and Luke M on 5pts for the quarter getting the lead 16-10 by the end of the 1st, Greg M got 4 and Bock and Reggie 3 each to open up the Amigoes scroring, they had some work to do as they shot 17% FG for the quarter to the Geeses 31%, both kinda shaky but warming up, the defense tight, only difference in stats was free throws with Geese getting 4 points to 1 from the line. Momentum with Geese going into the 2nd

2nd quarter opened up Cam Bok hitting 2 threes in a row to spark the Amigoes run and momentum switch, Reggie was heating up and helped the run making the hoop on crucial plays, Grey Geese had Luke M still pushing it inside with 6 in the quarter to Cam Boks 6 and Reggies 6 and with a big run by Amigoes finishing the period 21-14 they score stood at 31-10, Amigoes! The shooting now even at 32% Fg each boards slightly edged by Geese on 23-20, Amigoes win the assists 9-4 with most other stats still even. The scoring leaders would be Luke M on 11 so far, KRistain on 10 and 8 rebs, whilst Cam Bok and Reggie getting 9 each for the half, Game on!

3rd quarter was much of the same at the start of the quarter with both sides getting shots up at the same efficiency, Amigoes as the treys started going down but the gap was widened a little with the Geese getting their inside shots going, Luke M with the soft touch on the 9 foot jumper 7 points in the qtr, whilst on the other side, Cam Bok got in 7 points for the period to match him, the quarter finished out with Geese on top 51-43 with the slight edge but a big edge in a finals game, 12 minutes left, who would get out on top? Amigoes were ready to give it a red hot go!

4th quarter saw the Amigoes come back in a flurry a 19-13 run to end the quarter but it wasn’t enough as the last plays came down to garbage time with Luke M closing the game out on free throws, Lemme with 2 crucial buckets in the quarter as well as Luke getting 7 as well was too much for Cam Boks big streak of 13 points for the quarter only to fall slightly short this time around needing a few more buckets from the boys to force overtimeNadcap accredited EMS FastSMT spe online levitraes in the design of splints, but the principle is the same. On a crucial inbound play Kristian stole the ball putting away the Amigoes chances, almost….there was a last shot at the half but Amigoes weren’t able to get it off in time, Game…Geeeses!

Top Performances go to Luke M with a 25pt 6reb 3ast and 2 stl game on 37% shooting, MVP performance to close this chapter as a W, flying interstate just to get the job done! Kristian with a Double double 14pts 12 rebs 4ast and 3 steals on 45% FG as he played a big role in this one, the team overall shot 36% enough to get the job done and won the rebounding category by 3 (40-37).7 Steals 12-9!

Amigoes had Cam Bok go off for 25 points 11 rebounds 5 assists on 47% shooting to lead the way for his team, Reggie K on 16 points 3 steals on 60% Fg…super efficient but it would’ve taken more to sway the basketball gods in this one, Amigoes win Fg% 38-36%, Assists 16-13, but would fall short of the real prize, great effort from the boys but they lost to an great team who has proven to be able to get it done under many duress and clutch situations! Well done Grey Geese! 4 times UBL champs!

Division 2 was the first game off the ranks with a big run to get to the finals, against the number one team Bellambi Bombers!

These teams matched up well, both employing a team first offense with some keep players on each side that could sway the result with a nice scoring run.

The 1st quarter was big for Bellambi bombers, coming out strong with their big man Tom Rout getting busy  down low and grabbing some nice passes for 9 points and 5 rebs, Dan M on 8 points and 2 threes to get things going, they went on a 24 – 15 run for the quarter shooting 63% from the field  to the Mates’ 30% the outside shots coming more than the in paint layups Conor P pumped for the game and got out to a 6 point quarter igniting his team to keep their heads up.

2nd quarter started off with the Mates looking for a chance to get a run quickly before the Baombers can recover, but it wasn’t the time for that, they hung in the there by 10ish, losing the battle on the boards, by 27-21, Bombers dishing out more dimes 9-6, bombers still 45% Fg to 29% Mates, the shot selction varied but exactly the same as each other, the points gap only due to the inside shots made at the start, the end half would conclude with Tom Rout opening up his skillset to get a double double already 20 points and 12 rebounds, Pete smiling his way to 9 and 9 so far, the boys owning down low not letting much in or out, Dan Muller facilitating with 5 assists for the half..

The 3rd quarter started with Bombers leading 42-30 only a bunch of buckets to get headway for the Mates, but it would take some consistent effort, 5 or so points a quarter, be to right there at the end. The shots kept flying with players picking up the D and confidence at a high level for most players, The bigs of Bombers continuing their play with double doubles each, Tom 20-12 and Pete 10-11, but the Mates kept their game on and stayed true, but the unselfish play of Bombers (12-6 asts) caused Mates to lose the quarter and being down 54-41 by the end of the quarter going into the 4th.

4th quarter saw the Mates have some work to do, and got right to it, they had 13 point gap to make up, who came to step up? Conor P, sparking a quick start to the  quarter  just in the nick of time, he got 5 points to go and Chris W decide it was time to score with a huge And1 3 pointer with minutes left as well as some closing free throws to end the run which was 22-4 scoring spree to the finish line in a massive huge amazing baller effort to get back in the game and steal the win from a great team in the Bombers.

Top Performers in the game from Bombers, Dan Muller 10 points 7 rebs 5 assists, Tom Rout on 22 points and 13 rebounds on 45% FG to lead his team, and Pete with his standard dub dub with 12 and 11 rebs on 50% shooting, Jed P led in assists, but all that experience and luck wasn’t enough as the Mates had the basketball gods on their side.

Mates saw Cam Bok on a massive all round game with somem clutch moments, 14 points 10 rebounds, 2 steals as he guided the team to the W, Conor P got 13 in a breakout game for him, many accomplishments attained due to his sheer hustle, Chris W on 13 also as Meta got 11 with 50% 3PTFG on huge efficiency!

Well done to the winners of both divisions, it was an epic season with ups and downs and clutch factor amazing games being the highlight! Congrats Mates and Grey Geese, winners of UBLs most challenging night of Ball!

Stay tuned for news on the 3v3 and next season which resumes last week of Jan!
