UBLwollongong @ Berkeley
UBLwollongong @ Berkeley power rankings playing to form with The SCOTS and Batteries Galore dominating their games. Red Dawgs, the surprise pack of the season on fire at the moment. Shafti played hard last week against Team UBL unable to get over the hurdle.
B. Galore strong as always, betcha bottom dollar are waiting for a rematch with the SCOTs, Big Baby Ahmed with a round high 24 pts playing big down low. In a heated game between the SCOTS and Fighting Mongooses, we love passion and emotion in the UBL but will not tolerate violence or abuse in the league, ballers did well to keep control of their tempers.
SCOTS, on an avalanche roll, can anyone stop them? Fighting Mongoose falling just short but winning’s winning! BLUE WINGS WIN! Toppling the soon to change Nexus, the league is buzzing and UBL is exciting about a new team coming into the league in the near future, eliminating the BYE and introducing a later game that might suit some teams.

Team UBL with special mention of Carlson Hinzon who was unstoppable at defeating a valiant Shafti. Jordan Barry back at work for the Red Dawgs who took down a falling Nexus. Aiman playing sick led his side to a victory against the diverse Blue Wings.
SCOTs and Batteries Galore game of the round, was an arm wrestle the whole way through. B. Galore without big brother Daniel and a sub clawed their way back into the game with some big 3′s by little brother Chris, too little, too late.

Round Deuce, and competition heats up!
UBL Welcomes SHAFTI to the league with unfortunately a loss. Another round where the favourites dominated, pulling away early in the season.
SCOTS looking like the team to beat, Batteries Galore looking also young and dangerous. Don’t look past the Fighting Mongooses who despite 1 narrow loss are also looking in good shape.

Teams at the top of the table defeating the bottom feeders with the favourites taking out their respective games. Only a 3rd of the season to go, some teams a running abit tight in the last run to the finals. The Show encounters another bump in the road into reclaiming fame. Spartans own the game over some former teammate on Sausage and The Agents take top spot on the ladder.
Spartans 60 def Sausage 30
A game high by “Primo!” Cez Ceron with 20 points, not enough with the current new look Sausage to take down former team Spartans. Ro on 16 and Andy K 17 leading the game for the Spartans down load, rebounds and post moves, outsized and out matched, Sausage go down.
MIB def Demons (F)
Nexus 53 def The Boys 47
Close game, The Boys unable to repeat the great performance that saw them take down the Spartans by 20 points. Smylie with 18 and Mitch Davies 16 running away with the win to start the next winning streak, hopefully the same at UBLwollongong at Berkeley also. The Boys sitting on 5th positions comfortable for a finals spot if they win at least half of their remaining games
The Agents 55 def The Show 31
The Agents in a dominating performance against the 2 time UBL Champions D. Bunker with a usual game high of 20. The Show near full strength not playing well and in foul trouble against the hot streak of The Agents bringing their run to 6 on the trot

No Sam, no worries as Scott “Nitro” Woods hits 25 points close behind Chi Ly with 22. Miami Vice threatening those high flying top 3 teams reminding them they are still in the game. YKYMF did well Daniel Cadwallen on 17 and Dazzling Darren on 12.
Angry Birds 85 def Evermil 33
Angry Birds turning on their game taking advantage of having a strong roster that showed up to the right game. Lance Milnes and Brendan Edmistone, 23 points and 22 points respectively sparking some team chemistry finally to get some points up on the boards. Without playmaker G out injured, Brendan E definitely joined the team at the right time. Evermil, fought hard, lacking size and speed against the well “experienced/developed” Angry Birds

As this new season pans out we will see how the favourite teams position themselves for their first UBLwollongong title. With some minor technical difficulties in our 1st week, all in all the night was a good night of basketball. Great to see some new and familiar faces, great vibe and energy, good luck teams.
Red Dawgs 58 def Multiple Scorgasms 55
In an evenly matched game of skill and size, Red Dawgs outmanned the newly formed Multiple Scorgasms. A. Limbrick 8 points for the R. Dawgs and 13 a piece for Aiman and Adam Anderson. These are the crucial small loses that may hurt down the track and both teams look forward to have their full teams next week.
SCOTS 70 def Nexus 45
Garello taking his UBL Saturday form to Wednesday nights with 26 points and a throw down! Nexus’ never say die attitude was in there until about 3/4 game when the SCOTS turned on the after burners and ran away with the game. A welcome back to UBL to Adam Butcher with a handy 18 points. Mitch doing his thang with 16 for Nexus missing the services of a couple of Saturday Nexus ballers.
Batteries Galore 58 def Blue Wings 35
Batteries Galore only fielding 4 still managed to welcome Blue Wings to the comp with a slap! Long passes and fast breaks then draining three’s just because, Batteries Galore have just moved up the Power Rankings, Danny boy Weisel with a well trained 21 points, thanks coach! Close behind with Pat Simes on 17. Eliot Grace and Soon? from Blue Wings chipped in with 8 a piece for the team. Elliot Grace topped his team with a 8 point 13 board game…stay tuned for the mixtape!
Team UBL 48 def The Fighting Mongooses 45
What a comeback by The Fighting Mongooses but too little too late, Team UBL held out the game well, sloppy at times. The Fighting Mongooses did just that, fought their way back into the game they were behind in most of the game, with a couple of chances to tie lost. For the Mongooses Matt Bartlett on 10 and Tim Orange with a hard fought 12. Howie and Carlson combined for 28 points holding down the mid ranges for Team UBL who also were undermanned for round 1

UBL S6 – ALL STAR WEEKEND Dazzles!
Season 6 of the UBL Wollongong All Star time has come again and its the Pick of the players that represented their teams in the days events. The UBL Ol’ School V UBL New Era played it out for the 48 minunte game trading baskets and blows as they rotated subs through the assortment of UBLs finest.
The 3 point competition was a test of the sharpshooters who go through 3 rounds of ball slinging from deep for the title of 3point champion for season 6. Shooters looked to drain as many baskets in the 1minute period always looking to get that money ball to push them ahead of the rest. It came down to UBL Spartans Andy King against Adam Garello who shot for Pete Rosty who had to make an early exit. And the winner emerged as 3 point champ for this All Star. Congrats Andy King closing out the event.
UBL Ol’ School 86 DEF UBL New Era 67The All Star game had all the highlights you’d expect from the slickest most accurate Ballers the league could offer for the Saturday of confrontation and no doubt some memorable moments from Omar N with an interesting defensive play mid game that summarized the atmosphere for the game.
Taking the task on board, the UBL Ol’ School locked down on the defensive end to hold the Fast paced New Era to fewer points down the stretch with 36 points and 9 rebounds by Sam “He Man” Murphy as he streamrolled the court with his sheer ‘stick-to-it-edness’ throwing a nice dunk down to solidify a truly great performance never seen in an All Star game scoring a great number. Omar put his all into and 15 Rebound game with 8 steals and 9 points, for a near triple double!
Adam Garello kept the New Era in the game putting in a 20 point 10 Rebound double double giving the ring a shake on a 2 hand Jam to give him team a chin up as they trailed late game. Peter Rosty checked in for a cool 14 points draining some sweet jumpers from deep and just in side late game to try and steal the win.
Nice Effort Ballers for bringing a mad show of skill and drama, and no doubtsome interesting inappropriateness from un expected wardrobe malfunctions! Keep you skills up and see you for next seasons All Star Weekend!

Round 5 Top Scorers:
Miami Vice 45 DEF MIB
The takedown, MIB though short on players take nothing away from performances from Sam Murphy with 34 and Chi Ly 16 working well together for the win.
MVP still managed a handy 26 points but without that extra man, struggletown! MIB awaits the return of their superstars on rep duties. Miami Vice once again setting themselves well for the playoffs again where anything goes.
The Show 45 def The Boys 36
4 on 4 action, The Boys boasting 2 new big men in Brayden and Christian to assist Nick “Enforcer” Batley pull down those boards. Nick and Christian with 14 and 13 points, not enough to slow down “Big Rigg” Griggs with 23.
The Show on their way to making up for the late start in the league determined with the impending return of Captain Keogh and sharp shooter Moran
Demons 69 def Spartans 50
In a high scoring affair Spartans finally met their match, Peter Rostirolla, 5 3′s and 31 points, unstoppable inside and out.
Martin Howe dominated inside with 16 points and a bucket of boards to go. Ro 17pts and Adrian Clarke well played with 16, Spartans streak ends! The Demons looking to cement top spots in the coming weeks as their weapons are all engaged and ready to fire at any team who would oppose!
Nexus 52 def Angry Birds 39
Smylie with 19 taking down Thursday night foes Angry Birds. The Birds have lost their way, Jade Kennedy arriving as players left.
Lance did as much as he could with a 18 points and a frustrating second half things not going his teams way, G with 3 three’s, more work to be done from the Birds
Evermil 55 def YKYMF 52
With a chance for the tie twice, YKMF missed 2 threes. YKYMF’s Daniel 22, Roman 11pts and Darren Walsh with 8pts and monstrous block. Brady Padya led Evermil to their first win with 16 followed by Ryan Flannery with 14.
Could this be the turn around game Evermil has been waiting for? We’ll see as next week the face the limping Sausage team.
The Agents 66 def Sausage 35
Ka-boom, The Agents on a roll and not slowing down with another big win Adam Garello with 25, Jai Reed with 17. As for Sausage J. Paku top scored with 8, Sausage not finding their form without their big time scorers from the Hot Shots.
The Agents looking in good form power rankings looking at a top 3 finish, Sausage need their full arsenal next week for the double points round, yeh you heard it!

Round 4 as Teams chemisty sets in!
As the positions filter out on the Ladder, Spartans take top spot to continue their dominance in the UBL, chasing that maiden Championship. Round 5 will see 2 time champs The Show returning the comp to make a bid for the playoffs.
Good work to the new teams gathering their first UBL wins and estblishing some street credit. 2 players return to give their teams wins, Ado for Spartans and Nitro giving Miami Vice some much need oomph
Round 4 Top Scorers:
Scott Nitro Woods 29pts (Miami Vice)
Ben Smylie 25pts (Nexus)
Angry Birds 63 def The Boys 34
Angry Birds with their token win in the UBL putting an end to The Boys little streak. As Lance dropped 19 Nick B hit 13 for the boys as Angry Birds pull away for an easy win, maybe the start of the long awaited run.
The Agents 82 def YKYMF 30
Yippee Kay Yay with a couple recruits from the Airballs team unable to end their continuous losing streak. With 4 players in double figures for The Agents: Garello 20, Jai 17, Bunker 6 and S. McDonnell 13 their smashed their opposition by half a century.
Miami Vice 67 def Nexus 55
Too big, too strong, the 2 big men for Miami Vice dominate the game, Nitro with 29 and Sam He-man with 20. In the paint was where the game was won and lost with Miami Vice killing the boards. Nexus’ Smylie finished with 25 points, not enough from the rest of the team to take down Miami Vice
Spartans 64 def Evermil 54
Spartans show Evermil why they are top dogs. Evermil after some blowout losses give Spartans and unconvincing win. Matt Sainsbury with a brilliant performance for his team with 23 and Ryan Hicks supporting well with 11 of his own. Big Ro number 44 and Andy K with 19 points a piece working the post to victory. Adrian Clarke makes a nice comeback from injury with his usual impressive performance on 17 points
Sausage def MIB (F)
UBL 6 ..Overtimes and More as things heat up…
Round Trey! As it was raining points for the MVP in another record breaking performance, Ryan “Smiling Assassin” Tolhurst enjoyed his shoot around sesh to 48 points! But who is really the assassins as he continues his scoring runs, the defense will be targeting him to shut him down. The 2011 finalist remain at the top of the table MiB and Spartans, suprisingly The Boys in the pack of teams on 2nd gunning for first.
Early days yet still anyone’s game, keeping in mind a Double Points round still to come (don’t ask, it’s already been randomly chosen and set before the draw was created) This round welcomes back and congratulates big perfomances by Cal Ackroyd returning to the league after 2 years post knee surgery, and Nitro woods a big welcome from school holidays! The league is looking hot, the foundation teams at the top as some of the new comers are just waiting to explode with some wins, interesting weeks ahead…game on!
Round 2 Top Scorers: Ryan Tolhurst 48 points (MIB)Scott “Nitro” Woods 28 points (Miami Vice)
YKYMF still putting points up but unable to get that W. M.I.B. the answer, still killing it continuing on their magic run since winning UBL season 6 in 2011, can anyone stop them? Teams are knocking on the door especially in the weeks without rep players Omar, Ferbes and T. Hewitt!
MVP MVP MVP putting up a scorching 48 points single handedly beating YKYMF led by Nate with 21 and Rosco with 15!
The Agents showed promised last week narrowingly beaten by the Spartans, brought their A game this week nearly full strength. Definately the first free agent team in UBL history to put a quality team together with more success to come no doubt! 4 players in double figures highest were S. McDonnell on 17 and D. Bunker on 16.
Another high scoring affair in the round see Angry Birds still looking for that chemistry and adjustment to UBL’s streetball feel to the game. Angry Birds offering no excuses as it is loaded with ballers and the results will eventually speak for themselves.
Demons aka IBA exiles desperate to take over the UBL crown, looking good with 2 wins on the trot. Angry Birds’ Jade lead the scoring former Blazin J’s player with 12 points. Demons lead by the Ackroyd duo, welcome back Cal!
The Big Boys! Season 6 a turn around season for The Boys, no doubt still playing hungover, if hangovers were a pre-requisite for a league The Boys would be champs. The stamina and hunger has paid off with a big scalp taking down Miami Vice in Overtime.
In the UBL we reward good basketball, as Miami Vice still pick up 2 points for the loss. Taylor kickin some ass with 20 points along with Matty on 16. Nitro returns to 2012 without Scarecrow as the wingman in a double double performance scoring 28.
With great match-ups Nexus missing x-factor Riley Pierce and the short loss hurting. Sausage looking hot for the season M.J. hitting 17, steamtrain Jake with 16. Smylie unable to do it all with 16 points. Sausage always within range of a finals performance setting themselves up well with Johnsy replacing D. Perger in the scoring department this season.

UBL 6 2k12 Round 2 Record breakers!
Grudge matches and a UBL record blowout. UBL power rankings maintain with the favourites winning their games with the exception of Sausage going down to The Boys. Teams gaining chemistry and strength as the UBL MVP returns and turns it up for a record amount of points in a UBL game. Spartans continue their stand as runner up champs clipped The Agents from an always welcome a big performance to Will “Beast from the Middle East” G with 8 threes.
In other UBL matters, an unsportsmanlike technical foul soured a game and a uniform, just a reminder UBL has zero tolerance for aggressive behaviour verbally or physically to players or officials and offenders will be banned at UBL officials discretion. Seeya on the court Saturday, and dont forget to check out the mixtape from Round 2!
Round 2 Top Scorers: Ryan Tolhurst – 45pts (MIB) Randall Ferbes – 37pts (MIB) MIB 118 def Evermil 37MIB certainly had Evermils number after playing them in a closer game the week before. This week without big man L. Rich Evermil was never in the fight against the defending champs who were also to their credit playing on four cylinders.
2011 MVP Ryan Tolhurst lit it up with 45 points, Ferbes on 37 and A. Reich with 28 points! Wow, an improvement on last week and a UBL record 118 points. Watch this team, they can back up their title easily the way they are playing!
Demons 49 def Miami Vice 44With the absence of Nitro and the retrechment of Morgan, Miami Vice lacking abit of height but attacked in the form of speed, Chi Ly made some nice fast breaks as Big Sam consistent with 19 points.
Demons with their 1st UBL win spread the points well, Martin Howe with 14 and Clancy Dane 13. Demons shaping up to be a good contender for the UBL title, long range bombs, height and speed, they’ve got it all covered. Miami Vice are looking to bounce back next round and keep in the top ranks of the ladder.
The Boys 53 def Sausage 46Both teams down on players with Randall and Perger back in the game. Perger with another great performance with 31 points we hope to see him back in the league permanently. The Boys pouncing on this game after last weeks small loss against the Spartans, full of confidence they upset Sausage for one of many W’s this season, Mitch and Andrew with 12 and 11.
Nexus 75 def YKYMF 43Another high scoring game for Nexus, anticipating a close finish for quarter finals showing no mercy to YKYMF. Smylie at it again with 27 while Mitch and Aron chipped in a solid one four. The Dynamics of having the post, mid range, and break combination is how Nexus have made it into the post season So many times in UBL history.
Dean Poder led YKYMF this week Daniel Cadwaller not far behind. YKYMF still on the hunt for back-up to remain competitive in the comp as the other teams step it up a gear.
Spartans 63 def The Agents 54In a tight tug-o-war at half time Spartans eventually welcoming the new team to the comp with a loss. Adam Garello understoppable with a run away dunk, 26 points shooting 82% from the field. D Bunker proving to be a problem for other teams as a big man in the league scoring 22.
The Beast from the Middle East Will G. busting out 8 three’s for his 25 the pull the Spartans away from danger as the turnover piled up to 12 against The Agents 9, all in all a great game and a good start for The Agents definately moving up the Power Rankings soon.

UBL Season 6 is underway! Big Ballin!
Baller UP! Round 1 welcomes to the UBL Demons formerly Fairy Boys, Evermil & Angry Birds formerly Tokens. UBL pre-season Power Rankings remain the same as the favourites won their matches. In a fierce running battle of the assist, Sam Ackroyd v Sam Findlay. “Traders” from Spartans Jake Paku and Cez Ceron rolling on to make another finals appearance this season with Sausage. Demons on had with IBA defectors Pete Rosti and Nath Perger, definitely boasting some firepower this season from downtown. Michael John, former UBL referee top scoring with 21 and P. Rosti draining 5 threes for 15
MIB 57 def Evermil 37MIB going about business looking shaking in the first half. UBL welcomes Evermil who put up a good fight against defending champs MIB. In this game we welcome back Alex Gollan, 2011 UBL 3 on 3 Champ and Luke Rich, potential UBL Dunk King. MIB too strong, and too fit running away with the game in the 2nd half. Alex G top scoring with 16 and Captain Ryan H with 10 for Evermil
Nexus 76 def YKYMF 4444pts a respectable offensive game for Yippe Kay Yay, but 76 pts against, Nexus putting the hammer down. 2011 UBL Champions M . I . B . Down to the Wire
In a fantastic end to the year, one of the best playoffs the UBL has ever produced. MIB, Spartans, Sausage, Miami Vice and Nexus…the top 5 all neck and neck could of been anyone’s title. With the Spartans on a 8 game winning streak and MIB on 7, respectively finishing 1st and 2nd it was a dream final.
UBL would like to thank all our supporters during the year, all our dedicated referees who give up their Saturdays to come officiate. Thanks to our sponsors; Fine Tuned Autos, Dj Nade-B, URAC, Big Bang Ballers, Unique Pool Cafe, AIME and PRIMO! Big shout outs to Rekollect for the support. Much thanks to photographers Sarah from Showing, Cez and Davey G. All the teams that helped out during the season and for the great support thrown behind the UBL.
UBL will be starting again in February 2012, we’ll have a prize pool of $200. There is also plans of starting up an alternate Thursday night comp, so please contact us if you’re interested.
MIB 45 def Spartans 43
Off the bat, both teams played man on man, physical, intense, the way finals should be. With everything on the line all the hard work during the season came down to this 40 mins. Defense was tight on both ends. Omar Nemer and Randall Forbes newly named Illawarra U16′s rep Coaches, had their young protege’s on the bench.
Adrian Clarke set the tempo in the first half with fast break finishes to give Spartans a 14 point buffer mid way going 4/4 for the first quarter. MIB needed a change, and a change was what happened. Looking down and out MIB started the 3rd quarter with full court man, double teaming Spartan guards forcing a ridiculous amount of turnovers, that Spartan discipline and hunger went dry as they set into panic mode.
Spartans still up in the 4th, but against a stacked team including Youth League reps Omar Nemer,Tim Hewitt not to mention UBL Season 5 MVP Ryan Tolhurst they made one of the biggest comebacks in the season. Both teams in the penalty with 30 seconds to go, scores tied and Jake Paku from Spartans was put to the line for a chance to ice the game, no deal!
Omar Nemer with the ball with 20 seconds to go, brings it up the court, dribbles, passes, gets it back…Spartans careful not to foul, scores still tied. 5 seconds left, Omar drives for the win, slips, and the ball is stolen (or is it?). Andy King taps the ball out from his possession with 2 seconds to go thinking overtime, the ball flies into the hands of Federico Fina who by this stage had only scored a single basket in the game. He Blazes a J with a second, the buzzer sounds….swishhhh MIB WIN!
An epic last shot that was meant to be, fate would have it, and with that Fed ends the Spartans chances at OT, and the win.
In a game with no real dominance by a single player Omar finished with 15points and 15 rebounds, nice double double. And Ado with 13 M.I.B. post game decided to drive around the beach in a drop top jeep hanging the UBL trophy out the roof to Queen’s “We are the Champions”…that you are, well deserved!
Congratulations to MIB and 2011 MVP Ryan “Smiling Assassin” Tolhurst
